DENVER - A spokeswoman for Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Tuesday rejected a demand by the state’s largest police union, the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police, that the Mayor resigns after a series of sexually suggestive text messages he sent to a member of his security detail came to light last week.

Fast and subtle, police using partially marked cars to target aggressive drivers

Roadside signs might declare friendly driving is the Texas way, but not everyone seems to get the message. That’s why the El Paso Police Department has been using partially marked vehicles to track down aggressive drivers, said Robert Gomez, public information officer for EPPD. Aggressive driving includes speeding, changing lanes without signaling and tailgating another vehicle.

Richardson police responding to a disturbance on Feb. 7 found themselves caught in an ambush with a man armed with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, according to newly released documents in the fatal shooting of a veteran Richardson officer and another man at an apartment complex. "It looked like he was hunting us," police Sgt. Brian Lee Alcorn stated in the affidavits.

After a nearly daylong manhunt, authorities took into custody a college student from the Chicago suburbs who police said fatally shot his parents on the campus of Central Michigan University. The university and local police said 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr., of Plainfield, was taken into custody after being seen passing through the campus after midnight Saturday.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the loss of one of our officers and SMPOA members. Officer Kenneth Copeland, 58, and other SMPD officers were serving a warrant Monday afternoon when the suspect shot him multiple times. Copeland was wearing his protective vest and was immediately transported to Central Texas Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

December 03, 2017 Mids B responded to the Treehouse Apartments #117 for a Burglary of a Habitation in progress.  The Victim was in bed asleep, but woke up at approximately 0538 hours to find Chaitanya Cherukuri crouched at the foot of her bed.  The Victim grabbed a personal taser while yelling for her roommate to call SMPD.

End of Watch Report: October 2017

Last month, eleven law enforcement officers gave their lives in the line of duty in the United States.  Of those deaths, five were the result of gunfire, three were the result of assault, one officer drowned, one died in an automobile crash, and one died as the result of a heart attack. Deaths took place in eight different states.

The El Paso Police Departement continues to accept applications for the position of Police Trainee.  The filing period will close at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 16, 2017.  This recruitment is for police trainees for the 123rd Police Academy Class, scheduled to begin in February 0f 2018. The El Paso Police Department currently has 1051 sworn police officers.
26 Killed In Church Attack In Texas’ Deadliest Mass Shooting

A man dressed in black tactical-style gear and armed with an assault rifle opened fire inside a church in a small South Texas community on Sunday, killing 26 people and wounding about 20 in what the governor called the deadliest mass shooting in the state’s history. The dead ranged in age from 5 to 72 years old.

EPPD Wives fundraise to equip officers with life-saving tool

It’s a basic life-saving tool that El Paso Police officers do not have as standard issue. But, that’s about to change. Following the tragic events in Las Vegas that happened earlier this month, the El Paso Police Wives Association said it’s raising money to equip each officer with two tourniquets.

The Boston Chapter of BROTHERHOOD FOR THE FALLEN has organized a fundraiser for Saturday November 18, 2017.  The event will take place at the IBEW Local 103 Hall, 256 Freeport Street, Dorchester beginning at 7:00 PM and ending at 11:00 PM.  There is a $30.00 admission fee that includes live music featuring Bearfight, hors d'oeuvres, raffles, and a cash bar.
